On Saturday, April 16, 2011 the 2011 Wisconsin Trooper Art & Essay Contest was held at the Kalahari Water Park Resort and Conference Center in Wisconsin Dells. The event was an overwhelming success. Congratulations to all of the 2011 recipients!

One of the Troopers' favorite charity events is the Special Olympics- Law Enforcement Torch Run. It does not take long to realize that this event is about the Special Olympian's abilities not disabilities.

On September 1, 1939, the Wisconsin legislature passed a statute creating the Motor Vehicle Department, which consisted of three divisions - the new enforcement division began with 46 "inspectors" to enforce the state motor vehicle code and the regulating of motor carriers. This was the nucleus of the Wisconsin State Patrol. Through the years the authorized size of the patrol has increased to the present day strength of 400 troopers and 112 inspectors.

The State Patrol promotes highway safety and enhances the quality of life for all Wisconsin citizens and visitors by providing professional, competent and compassionate law enforcement services. Some of the services we provide are: size/weight inspection, motor carrier safety assistance, ambulance inspection, school bus inspection, technical crash reconstruction, and mobile data communication. Other services include aid to local law enforcement agencies through civil disturbance countermeasures, natural disaster recovery support, communications services and chemical testing services for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

For more than fifteen years Wisconsin State Patrol and Wisconsin Troopers’ Association has joined together in educating kindergarten children the importance of safety belt usage through the “Little Convincer Program”.

Wisconsin Troopers Benevolent Foundation donated $1000 to the Special Olympics of Wisconsin for 2011. The Wisconsin State Patrol and Wisconsin Troopers Association are active participants in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run and other fundraising efforts in support of the Special Olympics.
